Mrs. Rogers joined the St. Basil staff in 2007. Mrs. Rogers believes that every school should provide a safe, supportive learning
environment and loves being a part of the St. Basil experience. Mrs. Rogers has two sons at St. Basil, one in eighth grade and the other in
fifth grade. She can often be found cheering for one of her boys at whatever sport they're playing. Mrs. Rogers completed first aid & CPR
training in February 2012.
Meet the Staff at St. Basil School!
Mr. Alwin graduated from Wayne State University in 1970 in Elementary Education, B.S. Bill taught fourth grade for twenty-four years. In the
same school Bill served ten years as the assistant principal until his retirement in 2004. A phone call from a friend led Bill to Saint Basil
School, and he 'fell in love with the school'. Bill's personal mission is to build enrollment and improve the school offerings. He invites
everyone to "come in for a visit, check out the school online or better yet, come join in our adventure!" Mr. Alwin completed first aid & CPR
training in February 2012.
Father Robert Flickinger, Parish Priest
Father Bob has been with St. Basil Church since 2008. Ordained in 1975, Father Bob's professional background as a pastor began at St.
Thomas Moore Student Parish, and has led him to serve as Director of Vocations for the Diocese, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in
Hartford, Pastor at St. Mary Parish in Paw Paw, Pastor at St. Catherine of Siena in Portage and temporary administrator in Mendon and
Vicksburg. He was again assigned as Pastor in Hartford before coming to St. Basil. Father Bob enjoys reading in his free time and is an avid
sports fan. His adopted dog, Maddie, often accompanies him in both the church office and school, much to the students’ enjoyment.
Amanda Beery graduated from Western Michigan University in 2007 with her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She has
several years teaching experience in both upper grades and preschool and in a variety of backgrounds. She lives in Kalamazoo with her two
year old daughter Adelynn and her husband. She is excited to be teaching at a small school where she can get to know her students'
families and watch them grow up! Mrs. Beery completed first aid & CPR training in February 2012.
Mrs. Jennifer Peterson is thrilled to be a part of St. Basil. With her own child enrolled in second grade, and some of her older children as St.
Basil School alumni, it is a delight to have an entire family involved to our school. Mrs. Peterson completed first aid & CPR training in
February 2012.
Mrs. Cook graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and is fully certified by the state. A
Saint Basil alum, she is happy to live in South Haven and be a part of St. Basil School. Mrs. Cook believes it is her job as a teacher to provide
learning experiences that meet the needs and engage each of her students. She will strive to provide students with a safe and comfortable
environment in which to grow, create, and learn to the best of their abilities. Mrs. Cook completed first aid & CPR training in February 2012.


Mrs. Kohn is certified in K-8 in all subjects from St. Norbert College in Depere, Wisconsin. Her areas of concentrations included Reading and
Teaching Physical Education classes. Mrs. Kohn's teaching philosophy is that every student can learn. Teachers expose students and guide
them..."leading them to the water". It is the teacher's responsibility to help the child explore to learn. She also believes in the importance of
the basics...reading, writing and arithmetic! Both of Mrs. Kohn's sons graduated from St. Basil School. Her oldest son, Andy, is living his
dream of being a golf professional in California. Patrick continues his studies at Holy Cross College and hopes to teach high school or
college literature. Mrs. Kohn completed first aid & CPR training in February 2012.

Mr. Hamel comes to St. Basil after thirty-five years teaching in Benton Harbor Area Schools. He earned a BS degree in Wildlife Ecology from
Michigan State in 1972,spent some time in the Peace Corps, and returned to MSU to earn teaching credentials and later a Masters in
Elementary Education. In 1998 he entered Grand Valley State to earn Special Education endorsements in Learning Disabilities and
Cognitive Impairments. He was a learning Disabilities Resource teacher for the past twelve years. Mr. Hamel completed first aid & CPR
training in February 2012.
Ms. Zook is certified K-8 in all subjects, and is also certified to teach art education K-12. She graduated from Grand Valley State University,
and is currently attending Grand Valley in pursuit of her Master’s Degree in literacy studies. Ms. Zook has had experience teaching students
of all ages, and especially loves middle school. Ms. Zook believes that enthusiasm is contagious, and that as the saying goes, more is
“caught” than “taught”. She endeavors to engage students to the best of her ability, and realizes a successful classroom is a team effort.
She is enjoying being a part of the St. Basil community, and loves the South Haven area, which is where she makes her home. Ms. Zook
completed first aid & CPR training in February 2012.
Mrs. Wondergem is delighted to be in the classroom again this year as a paraprofessional. Mrs. Wondergem will help with Student Council,
serve as the St. Basil Scholar Editor and Yearbook Editor. Mrs. Wondergem has five children, three of whom attended St. Basil. Mrs.
Wondergem is the organist and youth choir director at St. Basil Church, and is the Music/Liturgy Coordinator for the church. In her spare
time, Mrs. Wondergem enjoys vacations at Crystal Lake, books and time with her family. Mrs. Wondergem completed first aid & CPR
training in February 2012.
Charlie is entrusted with the maintenance and upkeep of the school and parish facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for our
students and staff. From the simple changing of a light bulb to the complexity of our heating system, Charlie is available to make sure St.
Basil's facilities are operating smoothly. Mr. Hamlin completed first aid & CPR training in February 2012.
